new Nedelle mp3s, release date for album on new label
Oakland-based Indie songbird and sometime Curtain Nedelle [Torrisi] (myspace) makes light, airy, nylon-stringed guitar based music.
She recently announced that her new album The Locksmith Cometh will be released on June 5 via the new Tangram 7s label, which appears to be run by her, Chris Cohen (ex-Deerhoof, Curtains) and some others. She’s posted a few mp3s from it.
I usually like it best when Nedelle just sings and plays guitar, finding some of the instrumentation weighs down the airiness of the songs a bit, but “Ghost Ships” is a good counter example. It has a quirky start-stop percussion part, melodica (or concertina?) and electric piano.

“Ex-Priest” goes back to that aforementioned tried-and-true style with just her and guitar. It’s a pretty number with a great chorus. Back when she performed on my radio show, it was called “Blueberry Mineshaft.”
