the Dodos & Wovenhand @ Stanford’s 750 Pub, 4/5/07
I saw the KZSU and SCN-sponsored Wovenhand (myspace) and Dodos (a.k.a. Dodo Bird, myspace) show last Thursday at the 750 Pub on Stanford’s campus.
The Dodos were up first. (Actually, a 20 minute sound check by Wovenhand was up at the official start time for the concert, 8pm.) I’ve posted twice about them in the last week and a half, so I’ll keep this short. They were really good, as I suspect is always the case. High energy, good songs, good melody, harmonic movements and rhythm. I like this band. Their set was unfortunately quite short but everyone I talked to about them seemed to like their set.
Wovenhand is David Eugene Edwards from 16 Horsepower. People describe Wovenhand as gothic, Appalachian folk and I find that to be fairly accurate. It’s dark and folky. The vocals are quite often through an old mic that makes it sound like he’s singing out of a radio. It ends up being good music to zone out to and I did. They (David and a drummer) put on a good set.
It was too dark to get any photos of Wovenhand.
