Mission Creek Music Festival: my picks

The Mission Creek Music Festival starts tomorrow. I think it’s a great opportunity to get out there and see some good local bands and some national ones as well. They now have the full schedule online. Note: you should double check the schedules for the line ups and order. Some of my info may be out-of-date.

5/10 Rykarda Parasol, Harbours, Micheal Zapruder, Hiss Golden Messenger, Caves @ Rickshaw Stop. I like Michael Zapruder’s Rain of Frogs latest, New Ways of Letting Go, and the only other time I’ve seen him, I remember a good set

5/13 Kelley Stoltz, Sonny Smith, Virgil Shaw @ the Makeout Room. Kelley Stoltz makes an infectious brand of Revolverish-era Beatles influenced pop.

5/16 King City, The Dodos, Alela Diane, Two Sheds, The Hallflowers @ Elbo Room. Holy crap the Dodos are good!

5/18 anticon records showcase @ Bottom of the Hill w/ Jel and telephonejimjesus, Half Handed Cloud, Yoni Wolf(of Why?), doseone [spoken set](of Subtle, Themselves, 13&God), Bat Rays(Passage and Bomarr) anticon’s cool and everyone’s favorite ADHD bedroom indie folk pop band, Half Handed Cloud is playing

5/19 Brass Band Parade @ Dolores Park it just sounds cool

5/19 Lavender Diamond, Watson Twins, Winter Flowers @ the Independent I’m intrigued by Lavender Diamond’s album (link to the full album streaming)

5/20 Or, The Whale, The Finches, Last of the Blacksmiths @ Cafe du Nord I love the Finches and there are two other local bands I’ve heard good things about

5/20 Plug Research Showcase @ Mezzanine w/ Mia Doi Todd, Daedelus, Roommate, Flying Lotus, Ola Podrina I like Mia Doi Todd and I like what I’ve heard of Ola Podrida, though the latest listings don’t have them on it and I don’t see it on their myspace. Maybe they won’t be there after all?

I think it’s not shilling if it’s free, so check it out: if you aren’t quite ready to commit to paying for a show, Lavender Diamond is playing Amoeba San Francisco tonight at 7pm, and our shows are always free.

Details are on the website (under live shows) and there’s mucho public trans (71 or N Judah are best – plus a dollar off w/your bus transfer or monthly pass) and there’s validated parking at Haight & Stanyan as well as a block south on Stanyan – the Kezar auditorium lot.

Also, as far as the festival, some of my friends are playing: Uni, Deletist and Black Fiction. If I forgot anyone, I’m sorry!
