girl talk at stanford

Girl Talk (myspace) (who I’ve interviewed) did a set at Stanford’s Chi Theta Chi co-op last night.

There were so many people in the courtyard there that the Stanford police threatened to shut it down before it even started; Girl Talk wasn’t allowed to go on until some people cleared out. Of course no one wanted to leave. It took lots of pleading and about twenty minutes before enough people cleared out.

When he finally was able to get started, he started with style: Pittsburgh Sound (which I’ve written about before), acapella, with Foreplay/ Long Time coming in under it. From that point on, his set was pretty hot. There was a writhing mass of people, people on stage, people dancing on the balconies, even. At points I felt out of place not being a 19 year old fratboy grinding into his girlfriend. It was one long set, a brief break, and a shorter set. At that point, Gregg said he’d run out of material and he could do his Nirvana cover or pack it up. The crowd chose and he launched into his oddly out-of-place version of “Scentless Apprentice.”

Gregg puts an amazing amount of energy into his shows. He dances crazy and strips down to his shorts by the end of the set. He even crowd surfed during the last song.

And what the show felt like:

[Update:] I remember that I wanted to add that the between—and mid-—song banter consisted of Gregg suggesting that people drop out and suggesting they do a variety of drugs. I found all this pretty funny. He was also celebrating his last week of working at his Pittsburgh biotech company. barrington in good shepherd advocatecarrington by ache jamesbarrington price ave nj clifton 16free alizee ringtonesharrington richardson old shotgun ga 12free webbie ringtones 100adding ringtones to krzrringtone 8600 audiovox cdm free Map

[…] Girl Talk @ Chi Theta Chi, Stanford, CA, 5/19 (original post) — After stupidly missing a few Girl Talk shows (including one at a tiny bar in Pittsburgh. doh!) I finally got to see the craziness that is Girl Talk live. It was wild, with a writhing sweaty mass of mostly undergrads all around me. […]
