stream: national, battles, andrew bird (live)
Spinner is streaming some new full albums. I’m enjoying The National’s Boxer on first listen. The Battle’s Mirrored is a bit crazy. I didn’t really enjoy the new Voxtrot (but decide for yourself).
NPR is streaming (and offering for download) Andrew Bird’s May 20 DC show. It’s a good one. I love the beginning to “Fiery Crash” (the 3rd song the NPR set, starting at about 11:47 in) that he does live: a lovely mass of violin parts that seem out of left field until part of them come back in the middle of the song. The one in NPR recording wasn’t quite as clean as he did in SF. Also cool: the many looped vocals.

[…] I really like that they have the live version of “Fiery Crash”, which I’ve enjoyed and commented on before. Before starting into the song earnestly, he starts with a scale and then loops it over and it turns into loops of what would be pretentious wankery, albeit beautiful pretentious wankery, if it weren’t for the fact that he brings it back during the song and it works perfectly. This version also has a tremelo instrumental ending with whistling on top. Fantastic. […]
