local old rockers
[I never thought my mom would bring something to my interest that would be appropriate for ipickmynose, but life is full of surprises.]
Today’s NY Times has a piece about grown up baby boomers that are starting garage bands as part of their midlife crises.
The band won’t be signing with Virgin Records any time soon. But that’s beside the point. With one son at college and Darren, 17, finishing high school next year, Mr. Reis said he can think of no better way to spend middle age. “What do other people do?” he asked, as if only vaguely aware of his other options, none of which appeal to him in the least. “A fancy car? An affair?”
The thing that really caught my attention about the bands is that about three of the five profiled in the article are local to my part of the world: The Tennyson Seven (Palo Alto, probably named after the street), the Wildcats (Palo Alto, named after the elementary school mascot), and Space Available (Redwood City).
Who knew Silicon valley was a hot bed for executive rock (I’m coining a term here!)?
So to add to the geriatric rock (video) and the kid rock (video), we now have middle aged executive rock.
