SF gets another festival: Treasure Island Fest for 9/15-9/16

As Pitchfork reports, there’ll be another festival this year in the Bay Area. In addition to the amazing Noise Pop, we’ll get the Treasure Island Festival.

The current lineup includes:
Saturday 9/15
Thievery Corporation
Gotan Project
DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist
M.I.A.
Ghostland Observatory
Zion I
Kid Beyond

Sunday 9/16
Modest Mouse
Spoon
Built to Spill
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
M Ward
Earlimart
Devil Makes Three
Trainwreck Riders

Day one is heavy on the underground hip hop and such groups while day two is largely indie rock groups that came into their own in the 90s. Both days promise more acts.

No word on ticket pricing yet, but let’s hope they’re reasonable. Tickets go on sale soon, June 24th.

It’s being put on by the Noise Pop people (yay!) and Another Planet Entertainment (at least it’s not LiveNation!).

One thing I’m wondering about–there’s one road to Treasure Island and it’s the Bay Bridge. (Technically the Bay Bridge goes to Yerba Buena Island and there’s Treasure Island Rd to Treasure Island.) It’s not like the Bay Bridge without traffic anyway at an average moment, but add in 10,000 or 20,000 people trying to get in and out of Treasure Island and I think you’re going to have a mess on your hands. It’ll be like Shoreline except there will be literally one road (but two directions!) in and out. Maybe they’ll be trying to run shuttles or ferries or beef up other (usually sparse) public transportation options.

  1. [...] When I first hear about Treasure Island I was very skeptical of the logistics. In the end, the logistic were pretty well worked out–the shuttle buses were comfortable and reasonably efficient. [...]
