random links: MECo, JV, etc
Pitchfork has three streaming tracks from the forth-coming Sojourner box set from Magnolia Electric Company. These three tracks are really good and I highly recommend listening to them. They’re more like sparse older Songs:Ohia songs rather than the very Neil Youngy MECo stuff. If they’re any indication of how good the set will be, I’m buying it, even though it’s ridiculous (4 CDs, 1 DVD, blah blah a fricking MEDALLION, etc).
Update: You can stream the entire box set at Secretly Canadian’s site. There are some Magnolia Electric Co. demos.
P4k also has a new video from John Vanderslice. “Time to Go” sounds quite different from when I heard them rehearse it but I like it this way too. It seems like for Emerald City JV is going to a distortion-exploring world like Pale Horse.
Aquarium Drunkard has John Vanderslice’s thoughts about some of the sites of this city of ours.
Mount Davidson Park: The highest point in SF! The hill with the massive concrete cross! The place where Dirty Harry runs after some crook, or is pursued by some crook, can’t remember. I live right down the street from this cluttered, wild place. It’s a beautiful and forgotten park where you can hike for 20 minutes before you see a soul.
(I was just randomly talking to JV about Aquarium Drunkard the other night–it’s funny that two days later there’s this post.)
If you haven’t yet checked out the stereogum-socilited/ curated OK Computer track-by-track tribute, it’s worth checking out, even if it’s just for the John Vanderslice and David Bazan tracks.
