I haven't yet taken a close look at the list, but I just wanted to say thanks for making your compilation so easily accessible. My girlfriend just yesterday said she wanted to do this exact compilation. I think I'll show it to her and say, 'Well, I stayed up all night, called in sick to work, and skipped my grandmother's funeral, but I finally finished." Then, after she's done (not) laughing, I'll tell her I'm just a great time waster and discovered another person's hard work that I felt I could capitalize on. ANYWAY...

Being an Iowa City native and living here amongst all the university students and others from Chicago, I understand the joke made by Radish about Iowa City being a part of Chicago. It's a joke made by many Iowa City natives.

Thanks again for all the work you've done.

Very Interesting List, I have done something similar. I have listed all songs that have states in the song titles or lyrics. This is a impressive list of songs that mostly I have never heard. Good Job.

I've always wanted to do a playlist like this... but you did it so much better... :)

Oh, and also, you could have used 'Oregon Girl' by Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, but the Loretta Lyn one isn't bad.

"Four Hours in Washington" by M. Ward is about Washington State, I believe since the artist is from Portlan, OR. Also, to be doubly sure, you could go with "Washington State" by Faun Fables. Also, Polvo has a song called "Snowstorm in Iowa". New York songs seem to always be about NYC.

Radish, are you sure that Eleni Mandell is actually talking about that? The most prominent Iowa City, at least according to the google search for Iowa City is the one in Iowa.

In fact, if you listen to the lyrics, she contrasts Iowa City to Chicago and New York, making me think it's Iowa City, Iowa.

Ah, yes, I see, sorry about that - I skipped right down to the list of songs. Sicko did a cover of what I think is the Washington State official song, "Washington My Home" (where ever I my roam). Such covers aren't specifically against the rules, but I can see how it might leave one dissatisfied (plus it's only like a minute long!). James Talley wrote a song called "Richland, Washington", about growing up near the Hanford nuclear plant. It seems there are surprisingly few songs Washington-titled songs which are actually referencing the state - I guess because of this DC-state dissonance.

Good song Todd ... but while it may be about a city in the state of Washington -- "Washington isn't in the title. (Read first sentence at top.)

I would nominate Todd Snider's "Talking Seattle Grunge Rock Blues", the hidden track on the album "Near Truths and Hotel Rooms." It's funny, and informative (just like Washington State)!

Here are the lyrics:
