I’ve found a lot of pirated media here in Asia. There’s a fairly wide range of qualities and a small but still wide range of prices.
Indonesia and China are two places where I’ve taken a closer look at the costs and quality. For $0.80 you can a pirated CD in Jakarta. The liner notes are obviously photocopied. In South China you can get a very high quality package along with your pirated CD for $1.50-$2.00. Pirated DVDs all look fairly similar: good packaging but not quite right. They range from about $1.00-$2.50.

With prices like these, there’s no wonder the industry is worried about piracy in China. But when competing with free, $2 is still a lot.
