this may pass many people by, don’t let it pass you by. what a bill!
Sometimes I see a bill for a show and I’m just amazed that they fit so many good bands into one show. Those are the ones I get most excited about, I think. Seeing, say, Andrew Bird at the Fillmore is great[1], but put three bands I want to see at the Independent or Cafe du Nord or Rickshaw Stop and I’ll be looking forward to the show for weeks.
I first heard about this show yesterday and it’s the sort of thing that I’d run out (ie use the online) and buy tickets right now even though it probably won’t sell out and I’d say it definitely won’t sell out in the next couple days. Here’s the bill.
12/6 Port O’Brien, Cave Singers, Or The Whale @ Rickshaw Stop, 8 pm, $10
For $10, you get three bands that have been getting a lot of play on my ipod [2]. Oakland/ Alaskan seafarer’s indie folk band Port O’brien (myspace) put a full length in July called the Wind and the Swell, which, along with their earlier work (some of which is also on that album), especially “I Woke Up Today”, has been going around my head for months. I’m still digesting Seattle’s nasally-voiced acoustic rockers the Cave Singers‘ album, Invitation Songs, having only gotten it a couple weeks ago, but I’d definitely like to check these guys out. My love for San Francisco’s leading “sweet” country rock band Or, the Whale (myspace) is well documented.
[1] Actually, it was a total kick in the pants and awesome, but I’m trying to make a point here, okay?
[2] And I have impeccable taste, right? But, seriously, I highly recommend this show. Buy your tickets. I seriously have nothing to gain from promoting this show other than showing other music lovers good bands.

I was totally at that Andrew Bird show, too. I wonder if I saw you?
Either way, this show is awesome for two reasons: 1) Awesome venue and great bands, and 2) It’s on my birthday. Thanks Or, The Whale!
