What happens if I buy all 3000 copies? Or, more silly industry tricks
The British band Fightstar will be releasing Deathcar as a “divinyl” single–where one side is a CD and one side is vinyl–accordion to the Guardian. They will be made by Optimal Media Production, whose slogan is the very catchy “Our daily motivation is the optimisation of our service”[1].
Given that Fightstar is apparently a “post-Hardcore, alternative metal” band (according to wikipedia), I don’t think there’s much of any chance that I’ll like this, but all I can think is that this cannot possibly succeed, leading me to believe that this might be the only divinyl single ever. Of course, I need one.
Apparently, they’re going to make about 3,000 of these. That got me thinking: what if I owned all of the divinyl singles ever made? That’s be pretty incredible! I could auction one off every month and still have tons to play frisbee with!
At 2.99 pounds sterling a piece, at today’s exchange rate, that works out to be only $18,252.08! Hmm, maybe that’s a bit much to have the odd honor of owning all of the ‘divinyl’ singles ever.
[1] Even catchier in German: Unseren Service für Sie zu optimieren ist unsere tägliche Motivation. I was trying to poke fun, but it is actually catchier in German.
