That’s right, Last Christmas by Wham is fantastically popular here, possibly even more so than that other song I mentioned. I asked why and apparently it’s because George Michael is very famous here, so every year around this time[1] this song gets a lot of play in stores, restaurants, radio, etc.

Also, isn’t it an odd thing that the U.K. has going with the big deal about the Christmas number 1 single?

[1] There’s a commercial Christmas–Christmas is celebrated in some sense, even though it’s a largely Buddhist/ Taoist country.
