what I’m actually listening to: the new amsterdams

Sometimes I realize there’s a gap between what I talk about and what I listen to. “What I’m actually listening to” tries to set that straight.

Yesterday I finally purchased the physical CD of the album that I’ve probably played most in my life relative to how much I’ve talked about it. I’ve rarely talked about it, but I listen to it fairly frequently, possibly 2-4 times a month over the past few years. It’s Para Toda Vida by the New Amsterdams.

It was a band and an album I checked out a few years ago because it’s the more acoustic/ rock side project of the Get Up Kids front man Matthew Pryor. I never loved it, but I always liked it and it’s highly listenable. It also has a lot of staying power, far more than some of its closer cousins, like the early Dashboard Confessional stuff. This is more folksy and less whiny, so that definitely helps.
