quick tunes from the Acorn, Unwed Sailor

The Acorn appear to have a new album out. “Crooked Legs” has some really nice fingerpicking, orchestration and percussion.

I like it quite a bit, but I’m not sure if I like it as much as a much-obsessed song of 2007 by them, “Dents”.

The Acorn are on an Eastern US tour now and Glory Hope Mountain came out March 4.

I’ve been a fan of Unwed Sailor (myspace) for a few years now, but I’ve found their last couple releases to be a little less engaging. I was pleased when I hear these tracks off of their new album, Little Wars as they seem to be a bit more of a return to the bass-centric instrumental pop of Firecracker and the Faithful Anchor that I loved so much.

“Little Wars” has strong and interesting drums under a bed of synths and a melodic/ rhythmic bass line. It’s a really strong track. “Aurora” is also good and definitely worth a listen, just not as strong as the previous track.
