Largehearted Boy points out this Amazon page with 3000-some free mp3s. I’ve been looking through it and as you may expect, there’s a fair amount of skippable stuff, but there’s also a lot of good stuff in there too.
This entire Smithsonian Folkways compilation is free and it has some cool stuff on it (like the Bill Monroe/ Doc Watson tune below). There’s also a Billie Holiday/ Nina Simone CD that has a bunch of free tracks (like the one below).
