song obsession friday! (for the week ending October 10)

Song obsessions are those songs that we listen to on repeat. I noticed that my obsessions are often a week long. I also thought that other people might have similar obsessions. I’ve collected a panel of a few like-minded individuals and gotten their “song obsessions of the week.” Quite often it’s easy to explain why the song is good; it’s much hard to explain why we’re obsessed. Maybe you’ll become obsessed with one of these.

Adrian (me):
Horse Feathers - Curs in the Weeds (mp3) (buy)

Melancholy orchestrated folk from the Horse Feather who I wrote about previously. I’m such a sucker for that sound and this song.

Keith:
the Glands - Skin (mp3) (buy)

The musical landscape is littered with bands that time forgot and in the late 90’s a nondescript indie band aspiring to be the next Guided By Voices or Sebadoh certainly had plenty of company. Though considering The Glands were from Athens perhaps being a step beyond the Elephant 6 craze was distinguishing enough at the time. In any case their charms are certainly immediate, as this fitfully mid-tempo tune will certainly attest.

Scott:
S.E. Rogie - Please Go Easy With Me (mp3) (buy)

i’ve had an aversion to mellow music lately, but this is too nice…
