new throw me the statue, “ship”

Throw Me the Statue at the SxSW 2008

Seattle indie pop band Throw Me the Statue who has roots right on the Peninsula, released an enjoyable but somewhat inconsistent album in Moonbeams last year.

If the rest of their forthcoming EP is like “Ship”, it’s something to look forward to. Starting with synth drums one almost thinks it’ll be an upbeat synthy tune, but when the melancholy piano and vocals come in, it’s obvious this won’t be an upbeat effort. Especially during the chorus, many instruments add in to give it a really nice layered sound.

They will apparently be returning to SxSW this year. Their myspace reports that they’re finishing a new album and they’ll undoubtedly be touring to support that.

Purple Face comes out next Tuesday, February 17. You can pre order it now.
