song obsession friday! (for the week ending march 6)
Song obsessions are those songs that we listen to on repeat. I noticed that my obsessions are often a week long. I also thought that other people might have similar obsessions. I’ve collected a panel of a few like-minded individuals and gotten their “song obsessions of the week.” Quite often it’s easy to explain why the song is good; it’s much hard to explain why we’re obsessed. Maybe you’ll become obsessed with one of these.

Adrian (me):
Amiina – Glamur (mp3) (buy)
I’m still listening to that Realpeople track a lot, but this one was also getting a lot of plays this week. Gorgeous Icelandic instrumental stuff here.

Keith:
Chris Joss – Riviera 69 (mp3) (buy)
Chris Joss makes some extremely fine retro-instrumentals, if someone told me this was the soundtrack of a little-known late 60’s or early 70’s film I would totally buy that story. He has a new one out on ESL which I haven’t picked up yet, so instead here’s an earlier tune which will give you an idea of his sound. For DJs these work perfectly as PSA beds or set transitions, but I think Mr. Joss has the ability to enrich anyone’s listening day!

Andy:
Arbore – Train Across the Sea (mp3) (not released? band website?)
So every once in a while, I like to get away from my audio engineering roots and listen to stuff recorded in a pretty bare bones way. Talons’ is good for this, and apparently árvore is, as well. Or maybe their name is Arbore. The lack of a B/V difference in Spanish might prove to be an issue, here.
I came across this track on an MP3 blog, and since I’m a sucker for covers, and a sucker for the Silver Jews, I thought I’d give it a listen. It’s a nice take on the song, slowed down, less rock, and with a lot more wind noise in the background.
